Theme: Teaching Mathematics in a Changing World
Speaker Proposals: Proposals for 75-minute sessions at all levels, from Pre-
Kindergarten to Post-Secondary are needed. There are 5 computer labs available, so sessions
that engage participants in computer-based activities are encouraged.

MATH BEAUTY CONTEST begins November 11. The problem for each of the levels and other information about the contest will be posted on the website, www.vctm.org. Entries must be postmarked by January 15, 2016.
KAREN DEE MICHALOWICZ FIRST TIMERS GRANT applications are due on November 29.
This grant provides funding to VCTM members who have NOT previously attended a regional or annual NCTM meeting or anyone (including non-members) who wishes to attend a VCTM Conference or Academy for the FIRST TIME. More information and application forms can be found at www.vctm.org
CONTINUING EDUCATION GRANT applications are due on December 1. The grant of up to $1000 provides funding for a VCTM member who wishes to continue his/her education in mathematics or mathematics education.

EDWARD A ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP applications are due on January 1, 2016.
Full time students who are Virginia residents and attend a four-year Virginia College or University are eligible to apply. Students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program with a concentration or major in mathematics and plan to teach mathematics in a Virginia school. Tidewater Team for Mathematics Education’s 19th Annual Mathematics Day – Tuesday, December 1, 2015
The theme is Effective Mathematics Instruction for ALL Students. Dr. Anderson Norton from VT is our keynote speaker. He will explore how students learn fractions, followed by a hands-on workshop. The last session of the day will follow the format of an Education Camp with participants sharing ideas and materials on topics they have chosen. The cost is $80 per participant paying with cash, check, or purchase order, and $85 per participant paying with credit card. For more information, go to the Tidewater Team website at:

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION MONTH
Governor Terence R. McAuliffe and the Virginia Board of Education signed Certificates of Recognition proclaiming November 2015 as Family Involvement in Education Month. You may want to encourage your local school administrators to implement initiatives aimed at increasing family engagement in your schools.
