| J. I. Burton High School students visited Natural Tunnel State Park on November 20, 2015. Ranger Megan Krager gave a tour of several key sites at the park including the Visitors Center, Gazebo, Blockhouse, Chairlift, and Tunnel. Students were given research packets to collect information at each site to use later for their class project. Ms. Wampler's Block IV Geometry students Caleb W., Austin Q., Derrick A., and Aidan W. worked together to construct a scale model of the gazebo. Students used their knowledge and understanding of angles of polygons (SOL G.10) in addition to similar figures and scale factors (SOL G.7) to complete the project. The students all agreed that it was a worthwhile project and are excited to share their information with other Geometry students. One student indicated that this project has encouraged him to consider STEM related careers in the future.
